TriLink Awarded Second Year of Phase II Grant for Hot Start PCR Project

CleanAmp™ Primers for Improved Hot Start PCR

SAN DIEGO (August 14, 2007) – TriLink BioTechnologies (TriLink), a leading provider of custom nucleic acid-based compounds, has been awarded the second year of a Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase II grant. This grant, which provides approximately $750,000 in funding, will be used to continue TriLink’s investigation and commercialization of modified primers as an alternative method of “Hot Start” activation in PCR. Over the past year, TriLink has generated a large body of application data in endpoint and Real-time PCR and has established robust manufacturing protocols for scale up and automated oligonucleotide synthesis. The year culminated in the launch of CleanAmp™ Primers in June of 2007. In the second year of the program, TriLink will investigate a second generation of CleanAmp™ Primers and will look to further expand the technology into other PCR-based applications, such as reverse transcription-PCR and multiplex PCR.

“We believe that this newly-launched technology has great potential for simplifying the development of PCR-based technologies in areas such as molecular diagnostics,” said Dr. Richard Hogrefe, CEO and President of TriLink. “As CleanAmp™ Primer modifications can be introduced into any oligonucleotide sequence, the need for extensive primer redesign efforts in the design of complicated PCR assays will be greatly reduced.”
