Description
Methylated deoxycytidine analogs are well studied epigenetic modifications. 5-Hydroxymethyl-2'-deoxycytidine has recently been discovered in mammalian genomic DNA, but is substantially depleted in many types of human cancers. A strong inverse relationship has been demonstrated between the proliferation rate of cells and the global level of 5-hydroxymethyl-2'-deoxycytidine in both porcine and rat tissues, but no such relationship was observed for 5-formyl-2'-deoxycytidine and 5-carboxyl-2'-deoxycytidine.
